Introduced in 2001, the Dot NAME TLD is the sole TLD intended for personal websites only. These domain names can include personal or fictional names, nicknames and/or other labels people are popular by. Initially, just 3rd-level registrations were allowed, so if you planned to order john.doe.name, you had to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration process was loosened and second-level registrations were also permitted. Existing 3rd-level names remained online.
