If you want to keep some content hidden from the public eye, you could enable password protection for a given folder - either the primary site folder or another one below it. When this feature is enabled, a pop-up shall appear every time a person attempts to open the folder in question or clicks on a direct link that goes a few levels deeper, so login information shall be needed for www.domain.com/folder/image.jpg when you have protected only the domain.com folder. When the credentials are not valid, a “403 Forbidden” message shall appear and there isn't any way to get around this restriction, so you can be positive that no one shall be able access the protected content. The option could be beneficial in various cases - if only a few people should be able to see specific files, if you are building a site and you don't want people to see it prior to it being completed, and so on.

Password Protected Directories in Hosting

If you use any of our hosting plans, you shall be able to make password-protected areas with ease even if you don't have any experience with such matters. We've included an incredibly easy-to-use point-and-click tool into the Hepsia CP, offered with all accounts, so you will be able to protect any folder within merely seconds. You will simply have to select a domain or a subdomain and the particular folder which should be secured (the main one or a subfolder), and then to enter the desired username and password which will be used to access the folder in question when you need it. Each secured folder shall have padlock icon within the File Manager section, so you'll be able to see easily what content is secured and what is not. If needed, you can create a number of different sets of login details for the same folder.

Password Protected Directories in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you have a semi-dedicated server account with our company, you shall be able to secure any content which you have uploaded through our protection tool. Its interface is as simple and intuitive as that of the Hepsia CP it is a part of, so you shall not need to input any code at any time. You will only need to select one of the domains/subdomains you have inside the web hosting account and to determine which folder needs to be password-protected - the website’s root folder or some folder below it. After that you can type in the username and the password, which will be stored in encrypted form in our system, and you will be all set. The protection will be switched on immediately, so anybody who attempts to access the newly secured folder shall have to input the accurate login details. In case various individuals must be able to access the same content, you can create a separate username for each.
